Robert's interview with The Word

Photo from The Times.
A caricature of Robert Smith will be the final cover of , which will publish it's last issue in mid-July. And the BBC says there will be an interview, too.
(Thanks @rob_fitzpatrick, , @honeyinmyveins)

Update (July 6th, 2012): Now available for iPad. (Thanks Adam)

Some excerpts (been asked not to post full interview until 2 weeks after publication), thanks to Perfect.Murder:

You’re contemplating the end of The Cure?
Well, we are a lot closer to the end! We couldn’t tour in the same way as we used to. It would be physically impossible for me to tour, because I refuse to not do this (lifts drink). I’m not going to go on and just sing the songs, but I also know I’m heading towards my mid-fifties, so there’s no fucking way I’m going to do a hundred shows in four months and they’ll all be great shows.

So the last tour was the last tour?
Yes. I haven’t said this for 20 years, but the last tour was the last world tour that I will ever do with The Cure. That tour taxed me so phenomenally. It’s a sad admission, but actually I’ve never, ever performed without taking some kind of stimulant: I can’t do it. My natural state is not one of a performer, it’s like something I’ve been saddled with. I love writing songs, I love writing words, I love singing at home, I love doing demos. We go in the studio, and then we go on stage, and I have to be this performer. I fucking love doing it, but I have to be able to do it my way.

Robert interview with Corriere della Sera

"Here's the link of an interview with Robert for the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera (English).
He talkes about Soccer (Football): he says he has rooted for Spain Team and not for England.
He speaks of the duration of the concerts (minimum 3 hours) because he don't want to save himself ("singing is a beautiful thing, adrenaline")
He recalls with pleasure the Italian tours with a special remembrance of the Prayer Tour in 1989 (Faith Tien-an-men version...)
He lays against the monarchy and against the business behind the Olympics" (Thanks fmjews)

Robert interview after Hurricane Festival

ZDF have a 36 minute interview (direct link - YouTube) with Robert, that was conducted just after the Hurricane Festival.
(Thanks Sasa and bias)

Love how Robert throws Simon under the bus once again, blaming him for all of the pop songs in the set. : )

Robert also says he's recorded a cover of an xx song ('Heart Skipped A Beat') for one of their upcoming projects, and he thinks he'd like to record a new Cure album with Reeves, and they have already written one new song, but it's catchy and a pop song.

He also still hates Facebook (yes!), Twitter (no!), and McDonald's (yes!). : )

I'm not giving any more away. Just watch it. It's brilliant and hilarious. More of this, please.

Killing An Arab (20 of Another Kind version)

The Cure - Killing An Arab (20 of Another Kind version)
"From the Various Artists '20 Of Another Kind' lp. An unreleased studio version of Killing an Arab. The vocal track & some instrumental parts are different and predates the album version with a production rougher and more basic. The sleeve dates the song from 1978 and states 'Eighteen Age records' instead of 'Fiction' and it is rumoured that this version was incorrectly included by Polydor." (Thanks Autumn)

Vote for The Cure in Generation Top 50 poll

"I send you the link to a "crap" site but there is the possibility to vote for Cure songs for best songs of the year. This is a site for a TV show about an old french show about french charts...
1989 - Vote for Lullaby
1986 (Vol. 1) - Vote for In Between Days or Close To Me
1986 (Vol. 2) - Vote for Boys Don't Cry (New Voice-New Mix)
The results ends in the crappy show itself but it could be funny to have The Cure #1" (Thanks Fred)
