Robert interview in XL

Update (6/30/12): Scans of the article here and a rough translation below. (Thanks Pierluigi and Gianfranco)

Sounds

And whether or not Robert Smith of The Cure protagonist of the bizarre cult-film Sorrentino? XL reveals it from page 40 ... This Must Be The Man

As a boy he did not know who or what he wanted to become. Today, aged 53, continues to be the same questions. And, on the eve of the Italian dates of what could be his last tour, Robert Smith bestowed an exclusive interview to XL. Very intimate... and dark.

Close Encounters in Belgium

"I'm Alexandre from Brussels. I've met the band just before & after the show in Werchter. Here are the pics. It was amazing! Robert was soooo friendly with fans! Unbelievable!"
(Thanks Alexandre)

One Hundred Years at Werchter 2012

The Cure - One Hundred Years (Werchter 2012)
That's for you, Юра Тріобчук. :)

Robert interview post Werchter

Here's a brief interview with Robert after the Werchter show, though it appears to be region locked.

Update: looks like the clip has been removed, but I asked Vicky about what he said in it: "I remember he said he played every festival gig pretending the audience would have never heard of them. And that it’d been a long time he’d been so hot on stage, he was dripping with sweat from the moment he walked on (and yes, that was rather clear to see on the big screen close ups. and he wasn’t alone, it was SO hot and humid! Very un-Belgian weather)." (Thanks Vicky)

Interview with Eurockeennes organizers

Jukebox (English) has an interview with the organizers of Eurockeennes, and they talk a bit about how they got The Cure booked for the show and how long they'll play:

"Again this year, there are big headliners like The Cure or Jack White. How did you manage to get them?

Kem: For The Cure , we have booked his coming to the end of the last festival. Two years ago, we had already asked the group to come for the 2011 edition. They said that there were no dates scheduled for 2011 but in 2012 a tour would be in the program. They were asked to keep our offer for the 2012 edition. It was therefore in competition with all the festivals in Europe. But the history of the festival, their first coming in 1995, which was a huge success, programming, who would play before and after them, the entrance fee, drinks ... they have decided to come to Belfort.

JP: We are especially honored by the fact that it was Robert Smith who chose to come. He announced a huge concert nearly 2:30, which is not really normal for a festival. It is expected a very strong moment that will mark this edition but also the history of Eurockéennes." (Thanks David)

New interview with Reeves Gabrels

The Berklee College of Music has a new interview with Reeves. (Thanks Joseph)

How did you and Robert Smith reconnect?
At the end of April, he emailed: "What are you doing this summer? For the whole summer?" I said, "If you're asking what I think you're asking, nothing that can't change." He said, "This is what's going on. I'm the only guitar player and I really miss having a wingman." He said it would only be 30 songs. It turned out to be 52 songs. I think I had just under two weeks to learn them. I got here and I think we whittled those down to a primary core of 40 songs.

What's it like working with Robert again?
Robert has a very distinctive guitar style. He's a very interesting player. For a good portion of the night, I'm in a support role, which is an interesting experience. Usually I'm the guy out on the ledge. Now I'm the guy holding the shirt of the guy on the ledge so he doesn't fall.

What are the set lists like?
It's been across the board spanning the Cure's 30-year history. We've gone very deep into their catalogue, including some B-sides they haven't played live before. When I checked out [their catalogue] album by album, at least a couple of songs on every album went into the mainstream consciousness. The audience is just amazing to see, probably 12-year-olds to people into their '60s, all singing along.

Roger writes about his touring keyboard set up

From Roger on Twitter: "All you ever wanted/needed to know about my on stage keyboard set up but were afraid to ask? Special guest is Lottie"
This is fantastic! Thank you, Roger!

Nick Carter covers 'Plainsong'

So unbelievably stupid and wrong, that I had to post on the main page. Nick Carter (from the Backstreet Boys) starts his show with an instrumental cover of 'Plainsong'. I now demand that Robert Smith enter the stage in a spacesuit for this song. Maybe even get special rigging so he can "fly" in. :)
(Thanks, I think, to Steven for finding this)

Vote for Wish as favorite record of 1992

"The German VISIONS magazine has started an online poll "1992 - Vote your favourite record" and Wish is among the candidates.

Though the magazine is basically ok, they seem to have a little problem with the Cure, they pretty much never write anything about them (not a single word about Reflections, just some pointless sideline on Robert's looks for the Hurricane gig...)

So I'd love to see all Cure fans out there pushing Wish to no. 1 - the album definitely deserves it :) The poll is open until July 8."

You rate each album with points from 1-12, so you want to give Wish a 12, not a 1! Then click on "Bewertung abgeben" at the bottom of the page to submit your vote. You can also click on "Nicht bewerten" to leave out individual albums. (Thanks Nadja)
