'Killing an Arab' articles in France

Couple of recent French articles that mention the 'Killing an Arab' "controversy". Allo Music (English) takes a look at racism in English rock, And Novo Press (English) laments the changing of the title to 'Killing Another' on the Bestival CD. (Thanks David)
And as most of you are aware, Robert changed it back to Arab at the recent Reflections shows.

Problems with Cure Trainers?

Charles got this email just before Christmas:
"We are writing to you with regard to the order you have placed with us for The Cure Trainers. We have recently received the Cure Trainers into our warehouse and very sadly they have failed our quality checking process. We are in urgent talks with our suppliers to investigate how to resolve the manufacturing quality. We are aware how long you have been waiting for these items and have therefore taken the decision to refund you for these items today. The money will be in your account immediately but may take up to 5 working days to appear on your statement. Please accept our sincere apologies at having to disappoint you. Rest assured we will get back in contact with you if we achieve a positive outcome and can advise that the trainers are available. Kindest regards, The Sandbag Team"
Did anyone get any? If so, which style?

Rumor: Cure at Bilbao BBK Live 2012

Another European festival rumor, this time for Spain. Conciertos Ultrasonicos (English translation) says The Cure will be headlining the Bilbao BBK Live 2012 festival with Radiohead in July.
(Thanks ikbenwel)

Again, just like with the Rockwave rumor, until/unless it's listed at Thecure.com, it isn't happening. Just something interesting to keep an eye on in the coming months. Let's hope these rumors, and the ones still to come, turn out to be true.

New version of Friday for Secret 7"?

"Larry The Duck (DJ on Sirius/XM) just reported that as part of the Wish re-issue, Friday I'm in Love is being re-recorded for a 7" release for Record Store Day next April." (Thanks Brian)

Goes without saying that this is in no way official or confirmed until it's on the official site, and could be a misunderstanding on Larry's part. We do know that Friday will be getting released as part of the Secret 7" Record Store Day 2012 event, and that 'Wish' Deluxe is scheduled for release in 2012, but there has been no official word on a re-recording of Friday.

'Wish' Deluxe CD in 2012 & new album?

Along with the news of the Secret 7" art competition, there was this included in the bio at the Talenthouse website:
"The Cure have been re-issuing re-mastered versions of their early albums since 2003, with 1992's 'Wish' (the album that carries the single 'Friday I'm In Love') scheduled for the 'deluxe re-release' treatment in 2012....The band are currently working on a new studio album"

Hope this is accurate, and part of what Robert was alluding to as "STUFF BUBBLING AWAY IN THE BASEMENT".

Update (12-15): Have been told that this news was provided to Talenthouse by an official band source. (Thanks Joerg)

Rumor: Cure at Rockwave Festival 2012

In no way confirmed or official, just an interesting rumor - Greek music site Postwave (rough English translation) is reporting that The Cure are all but confirmed (key part there) to play the Rockwave Festival in Greece on June 30th, 2012.
We can probably expect a flood of these sorts of rumors over the next few months, most of which will be turn out to be false. (Thanks Spyros)

More from Robert

In response to fans worried about him not signing things in the future, Robert replied in the comments at the official site:
SIGNING...
IT'S UNLIKELY I WILL STOP SIGNING STUFF... BUT ITS USUALLY CHAOTIC PRE/POST SHOW - THROUGH FENCES/BUS WINDOWS/STAGGERING INTO HOTELS ETC ETC!!! - SO HARD IN THOSE MOMENTS TO DETERMINE WHO IS 'REAL' AND WHO ISN'T... I SUPPOSE MY POINT IS MORE THAT IF DEMAND FOR OVERPRICED SIGNED TAT DISAPPEARS, THE EBAYHOUNDS WILL FOLLOW SUIT... ? (SIGNING "TO XXX... " IS ALWAYS GOOD IDEA, BUT MORE OFTEN THAN NOT IMPRACTICAL... THERE IS USUALLY MORE THAN ONE PERSON TALKING AT ONCE (?!!) AND THE TIME IT WOULD TAKE WOULD LIKELY MEAN I WOULDN'T GET A SOUNDCHECK/GET WHERE I'M GOING/MAKE IT TO BED!)

Christina Applegate talks about The Cure

Christina Applegate was on Jimmy Kimmel last night (watch at 21:02, also on Youtube), and talked about loving The Cure at 13, Goths, attending Reflections LA, and needing a nap during the Faith set. : ) (Thanks Alan)

Robert Smith UltraCure VI

New from Schecter, the Robert Smith UltraCure VI 2012. Out next year. More photos here. (Thanks Brad)

Update: Robert has updated the official site, and also posted some more thoughts in the comments:

SCHECTER ULTRACURE RSV1 BASS AND GALLUP BASS!!!

PS IN OTHER 'GUITAR' NEWS... THERE IS A SCHECTER ULTRACURE RSV1 BASS OUT IN SPRING - AFTER A FEW DIFFERENT VERSIONS I SETTLED FOR A MAPLE NECK MODEL, WITH 3 SINGLE COIL PICKUPS AND 3-WAY SELECTOR SWITCH - IT SOUNDS AND PLAYS AS CLOSE TO MY DISINTEGRATION ERA FAVE FENDER V1 AS IS POSSIBLE... BUT WITH THE ADDED BONUS OF 24 FRETS, EXTRA TONE CHOICES AND NO TUNING ISSUES! IT IS SO LOVELY... AS IS SIMONS SCHECTER ULTRACURE BASS... MORE ON THESE INSTRUMENTS SOON...

PICKUPS
(PS AND FOR ANY THAT WONDER (?!!)... THE RSV1 BASS PICKUPS ARE SEYMOUR DUNCAN VINTAGE JAGUAR SINGLE COILS, AS TO MY EAR THEY SOUND CLOSEST TO MY FENDER V1'S)

Cure on Blank & Jones 'Chilltronica No 3'

The Cure are featured on Blank & Jones' 'Chilltronica No 3' album, with 'All Cats Are Grey' (only on the German version?), and a cover of 'Homesick' by B & J, which was approved by Robert Smith personally. Watch the trailer here. (Thanks BOA)

You can get the 'Homesick' cover at Amazon US and UK, too.

Ad for Simon's Ultra Bass

"It's not a Schecter ad (it's fucking terrible!), but at least you can see the bass...from Guitar World's Holiday Buyers Guide... It's a preview, the Simon bass is 'soon-to-be-released'."
Click here for larger version of the ad.

As previously reported, it should be released in January.

Thank You!

Just wanted to say thank you to Robert, Simon, Jason, Roger and Lol, for giving us these extraordinary shows. As I said after Friday night, The Cure's professionalism, their dedication to perfection, and their hard work in getting this show to such a high level, was so evident! I have no idea how you managed to play 6 of these shows in 7 days, and not be completely exhausted, but if you were, it certainly didn't show. We can't thank you enough for bringing the shows to more fans, and not just limiting them to Australia. That made so many people happy. So once again, thank you! Now get some rest, have a very happy holiday season, and let's do it all again next year! : )

Roger live in Toronto

More photos here, and a couple of videos here & here. And this was listed in the program for the show: "At the request of Roger O'Donnell, tonight's concert is being recorded thanks to the generosity and expertise of Keith at SOUNDCHASER (soundchaser.ca) in the hope that iTunes sales can be directed to benefit programs for young musicians." (Thanks Shawn)

Nov. 3rd at Little Trinity Anglican Church in Toronto, Roger will be performing Quieter Trees with the Corktown Chamber Orchestra. Here's some video from rehearsals.

Compilation of Springwatch Cure mentions

Watch it here.

"For the benefit of non-UK CoF'ers, Springwatch is an annual BBC show (with a sister program Autumnwatch) which is on daily for about two weeks each year, and charts the fortunes of British wildlife during the changing of the seasons. It got my attention in 2009 when I found out that one of the presenters, Chris Packham, was shoehorning Smiths references into his live links (as seen on this YouTube video). I loved this, and then found out that this year he did the Manics. I had a quick google to see if he'd 'done' anyone in the interim year (fingers were crossed for The Cure as my wife is a MASSIVE fan). Sure enough, he had done them, and had even posted a handy blog about it on the BBC site - only snag being it had been on well over a year ago.

Fast forward to October this year - we were getting married on the 11th and I thought it would be a great idea to track down the series, find the clips and make the video. Perfect wedding present for my Cure-daft wife-to-be, I thought. Thanks to a handy torrent site I was ready to go. Didn't manage to get it done in time for the wedding but this is kinda the midpoint between the wedding and the Reflections show so there you go. Took well over 25 hours to do, including having to watch episode 10 four times right through in the (unsuccessful) attempt to find In Between Days. But - got all the rest though (eventually), so here you go.

PS - went down a treat with my wife Lorna - hope he doesn't do Depeche Mode next or I'm fucked."
(Thanks and congratulations, Alan & Lorna!)

Rubik's Cubes as Cure album covers

"Space Invader is a famous french artist inspired by lot of 80's stuff : video games, movies... I saw a brief TV broadcast in which were shown some record covers made of hundreds of Rubick's cubes. Among them Pornography and Boys Don't Cry." (Thanks David)

Cure on Beacon Theatre marquee

"While watching Conan in NY last night, they had a road trip segment on Andy driving from WB studios in LA, to the Beacon Theater in NY. When Andy finally got to the Beacon, The Marquee had THE CURE on it in big blue letters! The show has a lot of good shots of what the theater looks like inside. Conan will be at the beacon for the rest of the week if you want to see the theater, it is really beautiful in there. You can see it here at 7:09. Watch the ticker on the marquee!"
