    Lets review:

    1st single - Does not compare sonically or length wise to the live version

    2nd single - Studio version blows away live version.

    3rd single - a pathetic little boy in the studio, an escaped mental patient live

    4th single - finally something that sounds as good, if not better (is that possible?) than the live version

    The songs, whether live or in studio, are audio Jackson Pollacks'. Lets hope the album tracks are less murky. We just have to believe...

    Wow, and think that left 11 days to have it.

    Sounds good, i think sounds closer to the previously known live versions.

    I can´t wait for the "ohhh girl" line.......and the whole song and b-side of course.

    Song sounds pretty nice, but has anyone else noticed Robert's severe reliance on the words "you said" or "she said" in a great many of his songs? Eventually it just ends up that I'm waiting for him to say the words in every song, as they seem to be so predictable.

    Yeah but it's always been a thing of Robert to say I said/she said/you said. "Why are you so far away she said?" "This dream never ends you said" "'But it's much too late' you say for 'doing this now'" "'I think it's dark and it looks like rain' you said".

    I think it's just part of his narrative way of writing some songs. I don't think I've disliked any song where he uses I said/she said/you said. Coincindence? Probably.

    This kind of sound does nothing for me... If it was some other band I couldn't care less - I didn't want to know more about them, after hearing this song, I wouldn't even remember I had listened to something like this.
    This track should be sent back to the 2004 album!!! I don't give a f**k about those tracks either...

    this song has such potential for radio - it REALLY should get some airtime.

    but if not - fuck radio - who needs it. :D

    so crazy though - i know i only heard a clip - but as with the other singles - i am seriously LOVING the live versions over the studio versions. (probably because i heard the songs live first and fell in love with them first)

    but this song is so fab - just makes me BOUNCE when i hear it!

    sounds like someone grew a pair, eh? that bass sound is nothing new, I realize, but it is a little captivating. And the vocal effects, while still nothing new, somehow seem to make up a little bit for lack of innovative instrumentation (in my humble opinion). very excited about this.

    "lack of innovative instrumentation", you know, I think that sums it up right there.
    I do like the singles, but some of the b-sides stand out more to me than the A-sides, that is, the b-sides seem a little more inspired to me, the melodies are more unique. And not to disparage Jason, 'cause I like him, but I think his technique lacks any distinction; I wish he would be a little more creative with his instrument, it lacks intricacy. It's like he does different variations of the same beat.

    I asked this when the last single came out and I will ask it again, "why the fuck do these songs sound so murky like they were on a casette tape that I recorded off of someone else's recorded casette off of the radio?
    (Am I too old or do people remember doing stuff like that just so they could get the song they wanted?)
    Anyway- every time i turn the volume up it sounds totally distorted. I like the singles for the most part- but this is driving me nuts.
    Does anyone know what this style of mixing is called and if they are using this on the album as well?

    Oh yes! I remember doing that!! Actually I have a casette tape of The Cure being interviewed on KNON in Dallas circa 1986. It has recordings of Heroin Face and more. I wonder if it still works?

    honey1974- I'm not an expert, but I've heard from more knowledgeable folks who say the singles were "mixed too loudly" which is why they sound distorted when you turn the volume up. I didn't really notice it until the SWID single, and even then, I thought that it was deliberate. Apparently it was mixed very loudly because most music is mixed that way nowadays. :(
    I don’t think the album is going to have this problem, at least, I hope not.

    yeah the mixing thing... I forgot the term... but to stay relevant, basically more and more artists are mastering their songs at higher levels (like I can see the article I was reading and it had like bar graphs... imagine bar graphs that support what I'm saying...) so as to "stand out" sonically from other records. So My Chemical Romance lets one out at a certain level, then Vampire Weekend lets one out a little louder, and then the Cure lets one rip that's even louder, and so on and so forth. It's kinda like middle school, in a way. Wait, what were we talking about? Bar graphs, yes. So basically I got there on wikipedia by starting with the word "mastering" and that's what I did over my summer vacation.

    Well, I don't know about the Vampire Weekend album, because it really isn't very loud, but the high mixing volume plagued the most recent and horrible Smashing Pumpkins album. I don't see how it sets a band apart when every other shitty fucking band on the radio is doing it too. It'd be nice to see some loud-soft dynamics and good production values. This is why I don't listen to anything mainstream anymore. Don't even care if that makes a snob now, either. The radio is hell.

    there we go. it's not actually increased volume, it's decreased dynamic range because, according to Wikipedia, "When comparing two recordings with different levels, it is likely that the louder one will be regarded as sounding better."

    and so on and so on. interesting article.

    I finally got a chance to get on-line again to hear this! Way too much partying this weekend! LOL!!! I have no idea why I said that, I think I still have a slight hangover. :p

    Anyways The Perfect Boy sounds so perfect! I loved it live and the studio version clip sounds great so far too! I can't wait to hear the whole song soon!

    I love the way this sounds! I can't wait to get it.

    RE: Mastering... it started to go down hill with Oasis. the guy mixing their 2nd or 3rd album (i forget now) was like, "hey, whenever this is played on the radio I want people to stand u pand go 'bloody hell, what's this song?'" so he mixed it all super loud to stand out from everything on the radio. Well, everyone's been doing it since then and it's out of control.
    Another factor is that tons of people listen to music on shitty little computer speakers nowadays and so the mixes are tweaked to make a shitty mp3 on shitty speeakers sound less like shit. But you put that same mix on a good sytem and all of a sudden the good system sounds like shit too!
