  2. Yeah, that title doesn't make sense.

  3. i like it. it's rather esoteric, reminds me of one of their older song titles like 'the upstairs room.' yeah, i like it alot. hope that's it. better than 4:13 or 13.

  4. It's definitely the best of those 3 options.

  5. they should call it 13 monkeys on the track.... yeah thats the ticket

    ReplyDelete
  6. i'd prefer the monkey thing...

    honestly.

please no more "dream" or "wish" or anything like that.

    be innovative ;-)

  7. I like it but it does remind me a bit of Deep 13 from Mystery Science Theater 3000. But, you know, in a good way...

  8. i know. how about 'chinese democracy' ?

  9. Dream 13 sounds like the name of the Italian dance group Eiffel 65. That really doesn't sound like the kind of image that Robert and Co. probably want to convey.

  10. yeah it's not that creative honestly...

  11. I like it..Not everything will be earth shattering...

  12. I prefer just 13

  13. I liked 4:13 better, both for the band/album symbolism and for the time aspect. But then, I'm a sucker for time references.

    Dream 13 - eh.

I really wish Robert would just go ahead and make the album a double, and do what he said he would do with it years ago - have one CD called Good Dream, full of bright poppy tunes, and one CD called Bad Dream, full of depressing dirges and gloomy Cure-metal.

  15. corrosive, i'd even do it for free. :-)

  16. LOL JPX!

    Best title idea yet.

Although Clockwise Dream would be pretty damn cool too.

  17. 13 wishful dreams...yeah....YEAHHHHH!!!

dream 13? dont love it, dont hate it...

  18. The more I muse on the title, the more I like it, but I'm thinking that won't be the final title.

  19. just to continue with the hard to make real and good cure songs, they should call it THE CURE 2

    ReplyDelete
  20. the cure II: electric boogaloo

you couldn't pay me to buy it.

  21. Boring boring boring!

The same amount of imagination was required to name their last album "The Cure".

Hmm, it's the 13th album! That's totally meaningless, but let's fixate on it for some reason! And what's a word that's in a lot of Cure songs? Uhh, Dream! Okay, that's a wrap, seeyalater!

There is a list of words that have ceased to have any power, they just sound completely cliched and hollow. My advice to Robert Smith (which I'm sure he's eagerly awaiting) is to try next time not to use any of the following words anywhere in his music. I know, it seems hard, but believe me, lots of songs don't use these words!! Seriously!

    Love
    Dream
    Wish
    Perfect
    World

Bonus points for not using "he said," "she said," "I said" or "you said."

  22. sofia: is it true boogaloo shrimp is playing keys on this album?

  23. You know what else annoys me about "13"? It's not only completely inconsequential that it's the 13th Cure album, it's also tediously self-regarding. What's all this self-referencing about, anyway? I'm tired of hearing R.S. congratulate himself by saying the new songs are very Cure-like. Bloodflowers was the conclusion of a supposed trilogy, a self-consciously Cure-ish album. The Cure was supposed to be some kind of summation of all the sides of the group, a pastiche of everything they'd done before (but with dull songwriting and horrible production). I have to say, some of the new songs really do sound rejuvenated and purposeful, but there's still this tendency to express something in terms of The Cure's reclusive, self-regarding universe.

  24. monkeybutt, boogaloo shrimp on keys. shabba-doo on the marimba.

  26. I kind of think they've overdone this 13 obsession. Something happening on the 13th of the month until sometime in 2014. We get it...Its the 13th album.

I think it taking all of his will power to not give the new album a title called: "Did I Mention This is Our 13th Album?"

    ReplyDelete
  27. I'm not too bothered about the whole 13 thing as it gives the album a gimmick which makes it stand out a bit.

I don't like the fact that the album is going to be called 13 or 13 something (or something 13).

Its not very far seeing IMO. What if they release a 14th or 15th album? Whats so special about 13? It's not like 10,15,20 or anything like that.

    ReplyDelete
  28. the thing i like about it, overplayed 13isms aside, is the mystery. the 13th dream- very kate bush almost. i really dig it.

    ReplyDelete
  29. My initial thought was that "Dream 13" works as an album title, but the more I look at it the more it just seems a little... cliched. Predictable even. I hope this really is just a "rumour", I know our Mr. Smith can come up with a better title than that.

    ReplyDelete
  30. As long as there will be songs like Underneath The Stars on the album I will be happy!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Well I guess the 13 obsession stems from Robert's tendency to denying that the band is "Goth", yet to revel in all things spooky and macabre (typically associated with being a bit Goth), and of course 13 is supposed to be an unlucky number. Bizarrely the only Friday that is a 13th in the release schedule is in June.

Let us not forget "The 13th" from Wild Mood Swings too. Was that supposed to be their 13th single or something? Can't have been. They must have released more than that. Was that album their 13th release including live albums and stuff?

Anyway, I think the title 'Dream 13' is a bit cliched. The last album was supposedly all about good dreams and bad dreams with Robert getting his nieces and nephews to draw pictures on those themes as stimulus for him (and album artwork!), so I agree that the suggestion that different themes had been explored would make the whole affair somewhat more compelling.

HOWEVER, with songs like Sleep When I'm Dead, Underneath The Stars and Freakshow likely to be included on the album, I am tempted to invoke yet another cliche and say that it all seems very much like a "return to form", and in that respect I don't care WHAT the album is called!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Also, Dream 13 just reminds one of "The 13th", and nobody should ever have to endure that memory.

    ReplyDelete
  33. LOL Jpx. Except I love The 13th. But I realize that song and album is most Cure fans' worst nightmare. :-)

If you think about it, Wish, and Faith are cliched names too, but they conjure something completely different and fresh as Cure album titles. Somehow a collection of songs called Wish or Faith MEANS something, whereas the words themselves are empty abstractions.

SO, if this album is really as chillingly blisteringly rockin' as it is portending to be, then Dream 13 could be one cool-ass title after all.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I'd prefer, "chillingly blisteringly rockin'" as the new title =)

    ReplyDelete
  35. eeeeeeeee. "blisteringly" no i don't like that adverb.

    ReplyDelete
  36. But as I said in my prev post, the last albums was supposedly all about dreams as well, so it would be good to move on...

Sleep When I'm Dead is the best track we've heard so far (with Underneath The Stars as a close follow-up), so why not go for one of those?

Ultimatley, who knows what the stimulus was this time round, but The Science of Sleep would probably be a cool title to pull together all those night time and sleep references - incuding "push me upstairs and pull me to bed".

    ReplyDelete
  37. "The Science of Sleep" just reminds me of that awful movie.

    ReplyDelete
  38. yeah, i wouldn't like science of sleep. i'd see big horses made of yarn.

  39. ...and over-sized rubber-looking hands!

    ReplyDelete
  40. ok, top five WORST things you think they could name the new album! i'll start:

    -pornography 2: hot teenage cumsluts

-the case of the missing mascara

    -rainbow dreams and moonbeams

    -deathbears on the attack

    -wild mood swings

    your turn!

my vote is for 'the case of the missing mascara'!

  43. my boyfriend would like to call the album "Bloated Decomposing Clownface"

but i suppose thats what i get for screaming out robert smith's name during sex.

    ReplyDelete
  44. you do that too sofia? thought i was the only one...

    ReplyDelete
  45. Other titles I could do without,

    "Doing the Hansa...Again!"
    "CrackheadFace"
    "Another Man in My Mouth"
    "The 14th"

  47. After pondering this for a while, I've figured out why I dislike "Dream 13" so much; anything that rhymes just sounds naff. Kinda like something a manufactured pop band would come up with. Now "Thirteenth Dream" on the other hand, I'd be happy with. Maybe it's just me...
